Last night as I was laying in bed, I started thinking about how much I'm enjoying being pregnant, and how grateful I am for this experience. There are certainly some down-sides to pregnancy,, don't get me wrong. But I think the pros far out-weigh the cons. Here are 10 of my favorite things about being pregnant.
1. Sharing Good News with Friends & Family
Who doesn't love being the bearer of good news, especially when that news is that a new little life will be coming into the world? Telling everyone we were expecting, from closest family, to extended family, to friends, and finally to the world brought joy to so many hearts. And it brought even more joy to us proud future parents.
2. Having an Excuse to Take LOTS of Naps
I've always enjoyed a good nap, but pregnancy has given me a wonderful excuse to take naps as often and for as long as I please. I can take 3-hour naps if I want to, and that's perfectly acceptable. Or, I can take 3 naps a day. The napping possibilities are endless.
3. Feeling the Baby Move
When I first felt the baby move a couple of weeks ago, it was magical. That moment really made it real to me that there is a tiny human in there. And he (or she) is very athletic! The movements have been increasing more and more each week, each time reminding me of my child. It makes me feel bonded and close to him already.
Being pregnant means eating snacks, lots of snacks. Every couple of hours, I'm snacking away on something. From popsicles to Cheetos to Cinnamon Toast Crunch, the snacking goes on and on. And that is a beautiful thing.
5. Wearing Leggings or Sweatpants (or My Husband's Pants) All the Time
I have one rule for pants these days - they have to be COMFY. If they are not, I will not wear them. Leggings, sweatpants, and my husband's pants are my best options.
6. Thicker Hair
I've always had very thin hair, ever since I was a kid. I could wrap the hair tie around my pony tail 3 or 4 times. But now, suddenly my hair is SO much thicker! If I put it up for too long, it starts to hurt my head from the weight of it. I had never experienced that before. But I am not complaining because it's nice to finally have a full head of hair!
7. Crazy Vivid Dreams
My dreams while pregnant have been so memorable and life-like. I've never had distinct tastes in my dreams before, and now I do! Strange, but entertaining.
8. Looking Forward to the Future
By far, the best part about being pregnant is knowing that in just a few more months, we will have a baby. And that thought gives me so much to look forward to. I'm so excited to meet him, hold him for the first time, bring him home, and watch him learn the world. There are so many good things to come, and pregnancy is a constant reminder of that.
9. Working on the Nursery
It has been so fun to dream about what the nursery will look like, and to finally start transforming it! We've painted the walls and gotten a few things for the nursery so far.
Every time that I work on it a little bit, I think about our baby living there soon!
10. Becoming Parents
Being pregnant means becoming parents. My husband and I will become different people once our baby arrives. We will have a whole new purpose and focus for our lives - the privilege of molding and guiding a baby through childhood, into adulthood. While that does sound nerve-wracking, it sounds even more wonderful.
